Creative, provocative, informed, scholarly chapters pertaining to 21st century urban design / built environment on the subject of loneliness and/or isolation.

The book seeks to capture a broad range of narratives, critiques, observations and de/constructions of loneliness which identify, in some way the ‘lonelinesses’ particular to our current century. The anthology is mainly academic and therefore contributions should be based on, or refer to, research and/or practice and be theoretically grounded.

The OBSOLESCENCE and RENOVATION conference raises questions that affect both private and public housing stock; the south and the global north; and both pre and post World War II housing across the world.

There is a wealth of architectural heritage worldwide, from historic city centers and cultural landscapes to some of the largest archaeological sites in the world. Conserving such inheritance is a challenging task that requires sustained commitment, interdisciplinary effort, and international cooperation. The Ministry of Tourism will be attending this conference in order to join us in spreading the awareness for the preservation and conservation of our historical and architectural heritage.

IEREK seeks to address the complex challenge of conserving architectural heritage through this conference to increase the awareness of how citizens should value and save our heritage more effectively.

This conference is planned to be held on board; a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, Egypt. Overlooking the Nile River, these two cities include a considerable percentage of the world’s monuments, thereby offering a historic context to the conference. more…

The Center for Advanced Studies in Integrated Conservation – CECI, is opening a call for papers for a special edition in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Manifest of Amsterdam.

The year of 1975 was considered the European Architectural Heritage Year. Delegates from all European member states spent considerable efforts for adopting necessary legislative, administrative, financial and educational steps to implement a policy focused on architectural heritage protection based on integrated conservation principles.

In Amsterdam (Netherland), from 21 to 25 October 1975 in the same year, private and public institutions, politicians and European experts met for discussing guidelines and actions to be taken for promoting a common policy for cultural heritage protection within new paradigms. more…
