The National Trust for Canada invites individuals and organizations interested in presenting at National Trust Conference 2016 to submit a proposal for consideration.

National Trust Conference 2016, Heritage Rising, is inspired by Hamilton, a resilient city with an exceptional heritage legacy. In Hamilton, heritage-led regeneration is transforming the city’s urban fabric and creating a dynamic new civic identity.

Heritage Rising will explore the cutting-edge of heritage thought and practice – in Canada and abroad, urban and rural – including Indigenous heritage, community revitalization and climate change. It will also build on Hamilton’s experience to examine how heritage reflects cultural diversity and contributes to social goals like poverty reduction, food security and public health. more….

2nd International Conference on Science and Engineering in Arts, Heritage and Archaeology is being hosted by the School of Geography and the Environment at the University of Oxford on June 20th-21st 2016.

This conference highlights heritage science research, innovation and best practice in the interpretation, conservation and management of cultural heritage. We are particularly keen to attract presentations and posters focusing on collaborative work between academia and heritage institutions. This year’s conference aims to showcase the work being done by early-career researchers.

This workshop provides the opportunity to discuss emerging practices of civic crowdfunding initiatives as generators of new forms of local participation and as activators of new forms of citizen-led, innovative micro-regeneration projects in European cities. The focus is on small-scale projects through which citizens and community groups proactively engage in the design, financial resources and transformation of urban spaces.

The workshop aims to bring together people, whether from an academic, practice based or lay perspective, to discuss innovative, small-scale initiatives supported through civic crowdfunding.

The workshop will explore a number of key core themes, for example: social innovation, technology, community building, local participation, local governance, design.

We are looking for stories about the economic organisation of community spaces (including social centers, cooperative businesses, co-working spaces, cultural venues in storefronts, buildings or open areas) developed and run by citizens with a social-cultural impact on their neighbourhood. The theme for the 2016 Annual Conference is nexus thinking, an approach that has attracted a surge of interest in the last five years among academics, policy-makers and third sector organizations.  The aim of nexus thinking is to address the interdependencies, tensions and trade-offs between different environmental and social domains – an approach to which geographers might feel an inherent attraction.  Rather than seeing energy, food and water resources as separate systems, for example, nexus thinking focuses on their interconnections, favouring an integrated approach that moves beyond national, sectoral, policy and disciplinary silos to identify more efficient, equitable and sustainable use of scarce resources. more….

Responding to the major growth in outputs created through these collaborations AMPS calls for several editors of books and journal publications. The positions are on a volunteer basis and can be embedded in two research programmes led by AMPS: Housing-Critical Futures and The Mediated City.
