COPIES, COPYRIGHT and PRESERVATION

Future Anterior invites essays that explore the relationship between copyright and preservation from a historical, theoretical and critical perspective. Both copyright and preservation laws are aimed at protecting unique human achievements, but they point to different, even opposing threats. Whereas copyright is meant to protect private interests from public encroachments, preservation mostly aims to safeguard the public interest against private forces. But as the categories of private and public are redrawn under the pressures of globalization, what challenges and opportunities lay ahead for preservation?

Call for papers
Diocletian’s Palace in the works of Adam, Clérisseau and Cassas International conference organized by Institute of Art History, Center Cvito Fiskovic in Split, Croatia, November 27 – 29, 2014.

The Grand Tour, as an educational rite of passage, reached its peak in the 18th C, widening its travelling radius outside of Rome and Italy onto further parts of the Roman Empire, among which Dalmatia held a prominent position.

The international interdisciplinary conference on architecture, urban planning and architectural decoration aims to explore the role of Diocletian’s Palace in the work of Robert Adam, Charles-Louis Clérisseau and Louis-François Cassas, as well as the influence of Diocletian’s palace on the development of European neoclassicism.

We welcome proposals for 20-minute papers. Each proposal should consist of a 250-word abstract and short biographical statement. Proposals are due by 30/06/2014. Direct proposals and questions as a pdf attachment to asverko@ipu.hr

The Lighthouse

An invitation to all early-career designers and architects to submit proposals for an exhibition of work to be held in the Review Gallery from October 2014 onwards.

Proposals can be submitted by individuals, institutions or collectives but the nature of the exhibition should correspond to the purpose of the Review Gallery as a showcase for the work of emerging architectural and design talent.

Deadline for submissions: 5pm on Friday 27 June.

Fortified Heritage: Management and Sustainable Development

The International Conference on “Fortified Heritage: Management and Sustainable Development” scheduled for 15, 16 and 17 October 2014, also welcomes the presentation of papers by all professionals with an interest in the conservation, tourist development and re-use of fortified heritage. 

Our aim is to create a forum for debate in which members give up their knowledge and share their experiences acquired in diverse spheres and different parts of the world, so as to enrich and broaden horizons with regard to the possibilities currently offered by our defensive heritage
